皇家墨尔本理工大学有超过六万学生，其中海外学生占约25%. 本周皇家墨尔本理工大学为5400名毕业生及其家庭成员举行了盛大的毕业典礼，地点为TELSTRA DOME体育馆。
International students make up about 25 per cent of RMIT University's 60,000-strong student community. RMIT University played host to more than 5,400 graduands and their families and friends at its annual Graduation Ceremony celebrations at Melbourne's Telstra Dome this week.
More than 100 graduating PhD students and 5,310 TAFE, undergraduate, postgraduate students collected their testamurs at the two-hour ceremony. The students were from the disciplines of Architecture, Arts, Business, Design, Education, Engineering, Health Science, Nursing, Public Health, Social Science, Social Work and Technology.
RMIT University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Margaret Gardner, said she was pleased to witness the milestone in the careers of future leaders of Australia and overseas in business, the professions and the arts. She encouraged the new graduates to enjoy a rich and rewarding relationship with RMIT. She hoped their thirst for knowledge, creativity, openness to ideas and change and desire to make a difference in the world - "all hallmarks of an RMIT education" - would stay with them.
Leading international cardiovascular research scientist and pharmacologist, Professor Paul Vanhoutte, who received a Doctor of Applied Science Honoris Causa at the ceremony, delivered the keynote address. A world expert in cardiovascular research, pharmacology and drug discovery, Professor Vanhoutte gave advice to graduates to help them on their road to success. Among his words of wisdom included: enjoy your profession, accept failure, listen to experience and be humble.
Leading Indigenous artist and RMIT University Master of Fine Arts graduate, Christian Thompson, presented the graduate speech. Mr Thompson said it was important for graduates to take opportunities which arose.
RMIT University is a leading international university of technology with its heart in the city of Melbourne. With about 60,000 students - a quarter of them from other countries and many studying overseas - it is a strong and culturally diverse community, and that diversity was celebrated in the graduation ceremony.
